Peer Review

Work out with your peer review group who will peer review which essays. You will want to make sure that everyone in your group gets their essay peer reviewed at least twice and you will each be responsible for peer reviewing two essays. The peer review groups are as follows:

Group A Group B Group C
Robin B.J. Chris
Lyndsay Michael Alex
Avi Tania Marlena
Drew Daniel Ahn
Natalie Teri Megan
Lauren Danielle Kathryn

Using the Comment Quick Start Guide and section 5c of The Brief Penguin Handbook (pages 59-60) as resources, use Comment to peer review two essays. As The Brief Penguin Handbook suggests, you should read each essay three times.

  1. With your first reading, you should focus on getting a sense of the essay and its main idea and purpose. After reading the essay once, discuss them by posting a one sentence comment for each at the beginning of the essay (see BPH 59).
  2. During the second reading of the essay, focus on content, organization, and completeness of the draft, and after reading the piece a second time post comments on these issues where appropriate (see BPH 59-60). For instance, insert a comment on the effectiveness of the introduction at the end of the introduction, a comment on the thesis at the location of the thesis, and issues of organization where appropriate. Feel free to include general comments on any of these issues at the end of the essay as well.
  3. The third reading of the essay should consider audience, style, and tone (see BPH 59). As with the first two passes, after your third reading, post comments on these three issues where appropriate. What you may want to do is provide an general comment for each at the end of the essay and insert comments within the essay to identify sections which you believe these issues are particularly strong or weak.
  4. Finally, insert a short paragraph length comment answering these two questions:
