MOO Commands For Connections

For a better guide to Connection MOO basics, please see "Getting Started with Connections."

On this sheet, commands are in bold and brief reminders of what those commands do are next to them, in regular text.  Within commands, if a term is enclosed in angle brackets — <> — don't type the brackets.  Just replace the enclosed generic term with the specifics that apply to you.  Please note that there are often two ways of performing the same command.

Beginning Commands

help <topic or command name> — get help with a particular topic or command

help help — get an explanation of the in-MOO help system

@describe me as "<description>" — put a new description on yourself

@gender <gender> — sets your gender; type <help gender> for options

@rename me to <new name> — change your character's name

@password <old-password> <new-password> — change your password

@who — see who's logged in and what the're doing

Communication Commands

say <message> or "<message> — speak aloud to everyone in the room

to <person> <message> — speak aloud, directing your remark to a particular person

emote <action> or :<action> — show yourself doing an action (write in third person)

page <person> <message> — a way to speak to people in other rooms, or to speak to people privately

mu <person> <person> — whisper privately to someone who’s in the room with you.  Whispering is often considered an intimate action, much like whispering in someone's ear face-to-face.  Therefore, most private conversations on a MOO are done through paging.

Exploring

look or look here — look at the room you're in

look <name of person or object> — see the description of the person or object you name

exam here —- get detailed information about the room you're in

exam <person or object> — get detailed information about a person or object

<action> <object> — execute a command (for instance, most objects can be picked up by typing get <object>)

Movement

@exits — find the names of the exits from the room you're in

<exit name> — go through the exit whose name you give

walk to <room name> — walk to the room whose name you give

join <person> — walk to the location of the person you name

follow <person> — will have you follow the named person

unfollow <person> — stops you from following the named person

home — go to your home (will get you out if you get stuck in a room)
