Jerome Zanchi's Epitaph

Hieronymi hic sunt condita ossa Zanchii,
Itali, exsulantis, Christi amore, a patria:
Qui Theologus quantus fuerit et Philosophus,
Testantur hoc, Libri editi ab eo plurimi;
Testantur hoc, quos voce docuit in scholis;
Quicque audiere eum docentem ecclesias.
Nunc ergo, quamvis hinc migrarit spiritu,
Claro tamen nobis remansit nomine.

Decessit A. MCXC. Die 19, Novemb.

Here are buried the bones of Jerome Zanchi,
Living in exile from Italy, his fatherland, for the love of Christ:
How great a theologian and philosopher he was,
Is testified by the many books edited by him;
Is testified by those who learned from his voice in the schools;
And those who heard him teaching the churches.
Now, therefore, although his spirit has gone away,
Surely, nevertheless, he remain with us by name.

Deceased in the year 1590 on the 19th day of November.
