Saint Louis University’s doctoral program in international business and marketing, offered by the John and Cook School of Business, will prepare you for a successful career as a business school faculty member.


About the Program

SLU’s AACSB-accredited doctoral program in international business and marketing is full-time; students are admitted once a year in the fall for full-time study. The maximum time to complete all doctoral degree requirements is five years.

Program Highlights

A distinguishing feature of SLU’s international business and marketing program is our focus on the preparation of effective teachers and mentors for the academic profession. Our Ph.D. students teach undergraduate courses as part of their graduate assistantship and are expected to complete the requirements for a Certificate in University Teaching through the University's Center for Teaching Excellence. In addition, Ph.D. students in the business school are encouraged to participate in academic and professional conferences, and to work with faculty to further develop their individual research and teaching skills.

Curriculum and Program Details

The program consists of 57 credit hours of required work. It has a research and teaching focus that concentrates on a joint area of study in international business and marketing. Full-time attendance at the University and residency in the City of St. Louis for a minimum of three calendar years is required. In addition, you will be expected to successfully fulfill the duties of a graduate research and teaching assistant, for which tuition remission and a stipend are provided.

Careers
SLU’s Ph.D. in international business and marketing offers students an intensive educational experience that is designed to prepare them for academic careers, typically as business school faculty.

Cook School Ph.D. students are provided the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses as part of their graduate assistantship and are expected to complete the requirements for a certificate in university teaching through the Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning.

Scholarships and Financial Aid
Each student accepted into SLU’s international business and marketing Ph.D. program is awarded a graduate assistantship that is renewable for a period of four years, as long as there is continual and satisfactory progress toward degree completion. Assistantship duties are evenly divided between teaching and research assistants. Funding includes tuition expenses and a stipend.
