Constitution of the Saint Louis University Ultimate Frisbee Club

Adopted September 15, 2005

 

I: Name

 

We are the Saint Louis University Ultimate Frisbee club.  We consist of two team, Saint Louis University Ladies Ultimate (SLULU) and the men’s Saint Louis University Ultimate Team (SLUUT).

 

II: Purpose

 

We exist to provide undergraduate students or graduate students of any ability at Saint Louis University an opportunity to learn about and play competitive Ultimate on the college level.  We will teach, train, and travel with any current students, faculty, or staff who are interested in learning about and/or playing Ultimate.  In addition, Saint Louis University Ultimate Frisbee Club shall reflect Saint Louis University’s commitment to education and the Jesuit Catholic mission in their purpose and all their actions.

 

III: Membership

 

A.  All undergraduate and graduate students are qualified to belong to our club.  We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or ability.

 

B.  In order to become a member, one must show up regularly to practices and eventually join the Ultimate Players Association to play in the college series.

 

C.  Club members have the right and privilege to practice with and compete beside other members of the club.  In order to compete with other schools, club members also have the privilege of being provided with rides from other members to away tournaments, in University vehicles or private vehicles

 

D.    Club members are asked to pay dues in the form of tournament fees to help subsidize costs.   These fees vary as the number of tournaments per year vary and the money provided varies.

 

IV: Meetings

 

A.   A minimum of two meetings will be held by the full club each year, once within the first three weeks of the first semester, and one at the end of the year to elect new officers.

 

B.  Additional meetings may be called by the club officers at any time to discuss pertinent topics.  The officers must be in agreement that these meetings are necessary before they are called.  Members can ask the officers to call a meeting for whenever they feel a meeting is necessary.  Except for the meetings listed in IV. A., meetings can be on a team-by-team basis.

 

 C. Practices, scheduled at least 3 times a week, can serve as official meetings for the teams when issues such as tournaments need to be discussed.

 

V: Executive Board

 

The executive board will be made up of four members, the President, a minimum of Two Captains (one female, one male), Secretary, Treasurer and Student Organization Cabinet Representative (SOC rep).

 

A.  The President is responsible for most situations.  It will be up to the President to run meetings and make sure all relevant paperwork gets filled out and to its proper place.  The President will be tasked with handling any situations that come up that could affect the club’s standing with Saint Louis University.

 

B.  The Captains of each respective team are responsible for taking attendance, keeping a team roster, and paperwork related to membership and driver’s clearance.  The captains are also responsible for reserving field space.

 

C.  The Secretary is responsible for taking notes at meetings and disbursing those notes to interested parties.  The Secretary will also make the webpage.

 

D.  The Treasurer is responsible for all business related to money.  This includes collecting tournament fees, filing reimbursement forms with necessary receipts, writing the budget section of the semester report, and giving the budget presentation with the President during funding allocation meetings.

 

E.    The SOC rep is responsible for attending all SOC meetings in relation to sports clubs. The SOC rep is also responsible for reporting Ultimate’s activities to the Sport’s Club cabinet and will serve as a direct link between SGA and Ultimate.  In addition the SOC rep is responsible for reporting back to the President, Treasurer and Captains about what is happening in SGA or other clubs which might influence Ultimate.

 

VI: Elections

 

Elections will at a meeting held at the end of each year.  All current club members are eligible to become officers. Quorum, which is at least one half of all active members, must be present to elect new officers.  Club members will nominate others (or themselves) for positions and these nominations will be put to a vote at the election meeting.  The President can also promote a willing member to a position during the semester to fill vacancies in the Executive Board.

 

VI: Funds

 

The Ultimate club uses funds made available to it through the Student Government Association.  Disbursement of these funds for club activities follows the rules set forth by this body. Discussion on how to use funds will happen between the President, Treasurer and Captains.  Members must also occasionally pay expenses themselves; this applies to traveling money, discs, jerseys, and cleats.

 

VIII: Committees/Divisions

 

The Ultimate club is divided into men’s and women’s teams.  This is because games of ultimate are often played with only men or women.  Women and men typically have different practices; however based on UPA rules women are allowed to play on men’s teams if the women’s team dwindles.

 

 

IX: Affiliations

 

In order for our members to participate in the College Tournament hosted by the Ultimate Player’s Association (UPA) it is necessary for our members to also be members of the UPA.   However, to come to practices one must not be a member of the UPA.  The UPA’s bylaws are attached.

 

X: Advisor

 

We are required to have an advisor who is currently faculty or staff at SLU by the University.  They advise us about how our actions relate to university policy.  Our current advisor is Rebecca Dohrman.

 

XI: Coach/Instructor

 

As a sport club, we are not required to have a coach or instructor.  We have a captain or co-captains, who are also elected during our meeting at the end of the year.  The captain is responsible for finding tournaments to attend and running practices.

 

XII: Ratification

 

This edition of the Ultimate club Constitution was ratified Tuesday, September 13, 2005.

 

XIII: Amendments

 

Amendments or changes can be proposed by members or officers and can be voted on at any club meeting by quorum.

 

XIV: Bylaws

There are no bylaws at this time.
