PR students at SLU are able to gain experience in the field by helping local nonprofit organizations in their publicity efforts. Each year, the PR Club discusses various projects that the members can coordinate.

In the past, our members have researched the volunteer habits of college students for the Salvation Army. Based on this information, the Integrated Communication Campaigns class then developed a comprehensive publicity strategy for the organization.

The PR Club has created press releases and PR strategies for the Dream Factory and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. These projects helped publicize specific events within the local and regional media, while providing real-world experience for the PR Club members.

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life at SLU gave the PR Club a chance to reach out to local media. Besides sending press releases and media alerts, the club gained experience in pitching to television stations and print publications. And, in the spirit of giving, PR Club members formed their own Relay team!

Currently, the PR Club is working on a service project for Friends of Kids with Cancer of Metro St. Louis. Members are hard at work evaluating and researching potential opportunities to improve the non-profit's communication strategy.
