![]() While rowing is a relatively new club sport at SLU, it has grown substantially in size and quality since its inception about five years ago. Through an arrangement with the St. Louis Rowing Club, the SLU Crew uses a brand new boathouse and training facility on Creve Coeur Lake as well as state-of-the-art rowing equipment. During the Spring and Fall racing seasons, the men and women of the SLU Crew compete against top-flight collegiate teams from around the country and bring home more than their share of medals. During the winter months the crew focuses on improving strength and conditioning using indoor rowing and weight training equipment. Spring Break is dedicated to improving the performance of our boats on the water. Rowing is the ultimate team sport. It can be very demanding. Strength, endurance and cooperation are required to be successful. Rowing will challenge you to push yourself to levels that you don't think possible, but the rewards of this effort are amazing. As a club sport, the SLU Crew is always open to new members...both men and women. Whether you've rowed before is not an issue. Five of the eight men in the US boat that captured the gold medal at the '04 Olympics never rowed before they got to college. Your potential to succeed is unlimited. Experienced or not, we hope that you will give rowing a try. Along with rowers, the crew is always looking for coxswains. Coxswains steer the boats and direct the rowers. You don't have to be really little, just kinda little with a strong voice, confidence and a willingness to take charge. If you fit the bill, please consider being a coxswain. If you are interested in rowing or coxing, please email the crew at: crew@slu.edu addressing your query to our president, Eric Sandusky. Please provide not only your email address, but a phone number and any previous rowing experience. We look forward to hearing from you!! |
