File Management
Every site changes and in order to accommodate your changing files, we have built in several important file management features. You can use all of these features throughout your file manager at any time and the results are instant.
View File Types
One of our most helpful features is the capability to view only certain file types in each directory. By viewing only one or two file types, you can greatly reduce the load time of your file manager. You will also find that browsing through your files becomes much more simple. You can select the file types you wish to browse when logging into your account or after you have logged in.
- Viewing by "all types" or by not selecting any viewing preference, will show all file types in the current directory.
- Viewing by "html files" will show only files with the file name .htm, .html or .shtml.
- Viewing by "images" will display any file with a .gif, .jpg or .jpeg extension.
- Viewing by "other" will display any other allowed file types that are not html or image files.
To make a new file type viewing preference be reflected in your file listing, click the "Refresh Current Directory" button.
Editing a File
If you have already made and uploaded a html file and now wish to edit it, you can do so by logging into the file manager program. Select your directory, as explained in the directory FAQ, and find the section entitled "Files residing in the directory". Then select the file that you wish to edit, click the "Edit File" button. You will be forwarded to a page with a large text box containing the contents of your file. Make any changes that you want to make and then click the save button. If you are unsure what to change or what html is, see Getting started with HTML, an offsite tutorial.
Deleting a File
Any file you have uploaded or created online can be deleted with this function. You can do so by logging into the file manager program. Select your directory as explained in the directory FAQ and find the section entitled "Files residing in the directory". Click the box next to all the files that you wish to delete and click the "Delete Files" button. You will automatically be forwarded to a page where you must confirm that you wish to delete the selected files. If you wish to delete the files, simply click on "Delete these files." If you do not wish to delete them, click your browsers back button, and they will not be deleted. Once a file has been deleted, it is permanently removed from your directory.
Renaming a File
If you wish to change the file name of any of your files, log into the file manager program. Select your directory as explained above and find the section entitled "Files residing in the directory". Then click the box next to the file name you wish to change, and click the "Rename File" button. You will then be taken to a page containing the original filename as well as a blank field for the new file name. Enter the new filename and click "Rename these files" to change the file's name. If you wish to cancel, click your browser's back button.
