Dr.
McBride joined St. Louis University in 2003 after spending 12 years at the University of Missouri-St.
Louis, and after spending four years as a research associate
at the Urban Institute in Washington,
D.C. He received his Ph.D. from
the University of
Wisconsin in 1987, with
fields in public economics, econometrics, macroeconomics, and economic history.
Dr. McBride's principal area of interest is health economics and health policy.
In particular, most of his research has focused in recent years on Medicare
reform, the uninsured and insurance markets, and long-term care. In these
subject areas, Dr. McBride is co-author of a book, several book chapters, and
over two dozen journal articles published in journals such as Health
Affairs, Inquiry, Medical Care, Journal of Rural
Health, Health Services Research, Journals of Gerontology,
Journal of American Health Policy, and The Gerontologist. Dr.
McBride is currently serving as a member on the nationally-recognized Rural
Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) Rural Health Panel, which provides expert
advice on rural health issues to the U.S Congress and others.
