Fourteenth-Century Linkage
There are many excellent Internet-based resources for medievalists from all disciplines. Sites for general reference include the Online Reference Book for Medieval Studies, the Labyrinth, the Online Medieval and Classical Library, and the Internet Medieval Sourcebook. We are not in the business of helping anyone with his or her homework (except, possibly, our own students). However, for the benefit of students and teachers alike, we have compiled a short list of fourteenth-century-specific resources which are available online; these are external links, for which we are unable to take responsibility.
- a complete calendar of the fourteenth century, matching dates with days
- "Some Important Events in the Fourteenth Century" -- an entirely Anglocentric and largely dynastic account, illustrated with manuscripts from the chronicler Froissart, speaking of whom...
- some Tales from Froissart in English
- the Bibliothèque Nationale de France's wonderful online exhibit: Le Roi Charles V et son temps (1335-1380) (the English version is here)
- the Geoffrey Chaucer Website and the Piers Plowman Electronic Archive
- from a few countries over, a list of Dante resources online (there are plenty)
- a fairly comprehensive fourteenth-century timeline, focused on events in the history of Western Christianity
- a summary of fourteenth-century developments in Eastern Christianity
- links to Italian Studies at Progetto Trecento and the Trecento resources at Emory University
- a description of the Ars Nova movement in fourteenth-century music
Institutional Memory
There are too many scholarly societies to count, but the Fourteenth Century Society has found that its members' interests overlap significantly with those of:- Societas Magica,
- the Society of the White Hart, and
- the Lollard Society.
Anyone identifying as a scholarly medievalist should also consider joining his or her national medieval-studies organization -- for instance, the Medieval Academy of America in North America, or the International Medieval Institute in Europe.
